Old Time BBQ, New Time Tech

We’re Austinites (true Southerners!), so it goes without saying that we love (LOVE) barbecue. Merging our love for BBQ with great sound and easy systems was delicious (pun intended).

The Client:

If you’re from Austin (or anywhere in our great state of Texas) you know Cooper’s – and it’s two-inch thick pork chop, the “Big Chop.” Cooper’s, started by the Cooper family, first opened in Llano in the 1950s, but we worked on one of their most recent locations in downtown Austin.

The Problem:

Like many restaurant spaces, Cooper’s in downtown Austin needed systems that would help them accomplish a few things: host wedding and corporate events, manage volume in conjunction with occupancy, and play sports games intensely. Cooper’s also wanted to make sure that these systems were easy to use, so staff could press a couple buttons and get things going.

The Process:

In short, this was a unique process that had us tune each space within Cooper’s for the best sound - you know, the kind of sound where you can hear the music, but also hear what the person sitting across from you is saying. This included using studio recording techniques to delete key frequency ranges from background music, so the music can be loud, but you can also order a drink.

The Result:

We handed the keys to an intuitive – dare we say badass – system to Cooper’s. Not only do they have a great projection system for events and an easy-to-use iPad interface for turning on, turning off and changing the music and TV channel – but when the occupancy of their space changes (i.e. the background noise of conversations gets louder or quieter), the system we created automatically reacts to keep the groove going.
